If you saw our summer to do list post, then you saw making pizza on the grill was on the list. We looooove make your own pizza night around here, but on super hot summer evenings, nobody wants to turn their oven on! I had put pizza night on hiatus, until I came across a bunch of Pins about pizza on the grill – I knew we had to try it. I love any meal when I can get the girls involved in the “making” process, since it gets them a little more pumped about the eating portion of dinner!
And wouldn’t you know, as soon as I made the dough and it was rising, a random thunderstorm rolled through. Fortunately, we had enough of a break between that storm and the next to get outside, make our pizzas, grill them, and then dodge raindrops as we ran back inside!
I used this recipe for the dough, and totally bought store-bought sauce. I prepared everyone’s favorite toppings while the dough was resting. I separated the dough into 4 balls. The girls’ were smaller, since I knew London probably wouldn’t finish hers, and Dave would be hANGRY if he didn’t get enough dinner 😉 To save the grill, I put each pizza crust on a sheet of aluminum foil, lightly sprayed with Pam.
We opted to head outside to build the pizzas, since the girls + sauce + our carpet/wood floors seemed like a recipe for disaster. I was pleasantly surprised that the mess outside was minimal! The girls and Dave opted for their usual: pepperoni pizzas with black and green olives, while I made a Hawaiian BBQ chicken pizza!
While we were making our pizzas, Dave heated the grill to 350 degrees (or medium high, but he doesn’t understand vague terms like that, he needs a number – Ah, to be Type A). We cooked the pizzas with the grill closed for about 3 minutes, then opened the top, so we could see when they cheese was adequately melted on each pizza.
Peyton always loves pizza night, because she “makes her own dinner” and she generally clears her plate – and London mostly ate handfuls of cheese while we built the pizzas, and then picked her toppings off and then ate my crust, because she couldn’t be bothered with her own crust. Toddlers.
We filled that square on the list, and we are excited to mark a few more off this weekend – we have a big (beachy) surprise for the girls!!

It was super intimidating, but so much easier 😉
