Do you ever draw a blank when it comes to planning weekly dinners? Wait. Who even has time to plan weekly dinners? I sure don’t, and we so easily fall into the taco-night-burgers-spaghetti-something-involving-chicken meal rotation week after week. So, when HelloFresh reached out to me to try their service for a week, I was pretty excited.
HelloFresh features three meal plans; a veggie plan, a classic plan, and a family plan, each with a different weekly menu to choose from. Select your plan, and then your meals – and are you ready for the coolest part?! – everything is delivered to your door. AND I MEAN EVERYTHING. Cloves of garlic. Parsley. Vinegar. You even get a cool apron. All you need are the pots and pans. (and in a few instances, olive oil and salt/pepper).
Admittedly, I am not Chef of the Year. So, despite our meals being “beginner” level, they were still WAY more involved than our usual go-to weeknight dinner, but with the easy step-by-step directions and pictures on the recipe cards, I was able to make it happen. My five year old even declared, “Oh, I just love couscous, and I never want to stop eating it ever!” (So if you have any great recipes involving couscous, link me in the comments!!). My husband noted that these weren’t meals we would normally have at home, and he didn’t think he would have ordered them at a restaurant, but he loved them – so we were able to branch out our own tastes, which was a lot of fun.
The great thing about HelloFresh is how sustainable they are. Everything is pre-measured and tightly sealed, so you don’t have much waste. HelloFresh also delivers straight from the producer. Meaning: they skip the kerfluffle of the typical food chain, where food goes from the producer to the wholesaler, to a warehouse, to a supermarket, and then to your home – whew! So not only does the food taste good, you can feel good about eating it!
You can find the HelloFresh recipes to the meals we chose here: Winner Winner Chicken Orzo Dinner, Skewer-less Chicken Kebabs, and Argentinian-Style Cod.
