Lana Del Rey

It was a rainy October day…just kidding. It was basically June, but Sunday felt like the middle of October. Lana Del Rey made it to Detroit for the first time last year, and I couldn’t miss it. The venue was shady and entirely too small. When I heard she was coming to DTE, I knew I HAD to go. DTE is an awesome outdoor venue which is basically a stage at the bottom off one big hill. Detroit’s version of Coachella.

I had picked up an adorable tank top and cut off shorts to wear, however after three straight days of sunny, 80 degree weather, Sunday rolled in with a high in the low 50s and torrential downpours, oh, and flood warnings throughout the greater Detroit area. AWESOME.

Fortunately for our team, the rain stopped at 5, the doors opened for the show at 6:30, and Lana went on after Grimes at about 8. And fortunately, we had a tarp to sit on. People were sitting on wet, muddy blankets and falling on their butts down the hill, so being “those girls with the tarp” and having a purse full of dollar store hand warmers was totally worth it. As usual, Lana killed it. Brought it back to life, then killed it again.  She played a lot of favorites like Cola, Off to the Races, Born to Die, and Summertime Sadness. (and yes, I was definitely wearing extensions! I do a lot when I do braids, since my hair ends up so short. Plus, I like to pull braids apart, and it’s much easier to do, not to mention looks better, with extensions! Here, I am wearing these 22″ clip ins! I generally opt for cheaper ones, since I usually wear them in a braid and they get ratted and kinked; basically burner extensions!)
