Before we left for Spring Break, I had an appointment with the GR Brow Babe. Janelle works her magic on brows and lashes! I am fairly low-maintenance when it comes to makeup, so the idea of not feeling the need to use mascara was what sold me on getting a lash lift.
You might be wondering, hey Jenna, what is a lash lift? Well! Think of it like a perm for your lashes. Basically, Janelle set the shape of my lashes to be the perfect curl. Almost like I was using one of those mechanical eye lash curlers. She also shaped my brows and tinted my lashes, which had SUCH an impact!

Lash Lift FAQs
When I shared about it on this post on Instagram, I got a TON of questions, so I am going to answer them below.
How long does a lash lift last?
100% the most-asked question I received. Janelle says lash lifts can range from 6 to 12 weeks, but it all depends on your lash cycle. She recommended I come back in about 8 weeks. Tinting, however, will last 4-6 weeks, and it’s recommended to come in between lifts to get re-tinted, to maintain!
What was the process like?
I went into the salon without eye makeup on, laid on a comfy table, and sat with my eyes closed for about 45 minutes. Honestly, it was very relaxing. Maybe just a little awkward to carry on a convo with your eyes completely closed 😉
First, Janelle applied a little tube-type thing to my eyelids with a very gentle glue. Once that was dry, she kind of brushed each lash up onto the mold. This was probably the most uncomfortable part for me, but only because I kept wanting to open my eyes! After each of my lashes were up on the mold, and separated, Janelle applied the perm solution. It did not burn or sting. That sat on my lashes for about 10 minutes. After the 10 minutes were up, she used a solution to remove my lashes from the tube/clean the area.

This was also when she applied the tint. This had a smell that made my eyes want to water, but it didn’t necessarily burn them – if that makes sense? Just a strong smell.
Once I was all done, I was advised not to get my lashes wet for 24 hours. We’ve all seen that scene about perms in Legally Blonde 😉
Did it hurt?
Not at all!
What is the difference between a lift and extensions?
Janelle does not do lash extensions. The lift uses the keratin chemical solution to perm your lashes to the perfect curl. Lash extensions involve gluing a synthetic lash to your natural lashes. These will also fall out when they are “grown out”, and I am told by girlfriends who have them, that you are unable to sleep on them. So, unless you’re a strict back sleeper, you’d definitely want to consider a lift vs extensions! (Disclaimer: I have never had lash extensions! Going off what friends have told me!)
Do you still wear mascara?
I was never a big mascara fan, so no. I do not. A quick Google search will tell you you can, but advises NOT to use waterproof mascara.
How can I get mine done?
You can follow Janelle on Instagram to stay updated, and check out Grand Rapids Natural Health downtown to schedule an appointment or see other services offered.
Overall, I am SO happy with the results. I’ve already booked my next appointment, and love how confident I feel!
UPDATE!!
I went in for my second session, about 7 weeks after the first session, and I had to share more photos with you. For the first session (photographed above), Janelle used the medium-sized rod for the curl, which means my lashes went out then up. This time around, she used the smaller rod, and left the solution on for longer. The result was a more dramatic, upward curl. I am obsessed!
Be sure to check Janelle out on Instagram, and for information on how to set up an appointment for yourself!

Love how they turned out! Such a natural look!
That’s what I was going for!! thank you!
The before and after from the one you just did is amazing! I want to do this!
wow the lash lifting makes your eyes look much bigger
More and more women like to have lash liftings.
I would say if you have the perfect lashes for a lifting its better then lash extensions for a natural look.
