Here’s a fun little DIY you can do with the kiddos, and it would be perfect for Valentine’s Day!
I baked a batch of mini donuts (I have this pan), and I just used cake mix, although there are a TON of fun recipes on Pinterest.
I laid wax paper down on the counter, and set my little donuts on a rack to cool. While the were cooling, I mixed up my frosting.
In a medium bowl, I poured a generous amount of confectioners sugar, I added a TINY splash of vanilla extract, and about a tablespoon of milk. I stirred, and added more milk as necessary. Too much milk makes it too runny, so if that happens, just add more sugar 😉 I stir and add sugar or milk until I get a consistency I like: thick enough to not drip off the donuts, but not like cement!
I chose black and pink food coloring, and added drops in random spots in the frosting mix. Then, took toothpicks and marbled the frosting:
When my cute little army of donuts (and random cupcakes because YOLO) were cool, I took them one by one, and dipped them into the frosting. This was Peyton’s favorite part, although she did end up with more frosting on her hands than on most of the donuts.
On a few, I had to poke the hole with a toothpick, since the frosting was a little thick. I did add some more drops of food coloring as I got to the end, since the frosting was turning a little purplish/grey! I let them sit about an hour to completely harden before digging in!
And voila! Cute, little marbled donuts!
Wow! These look so complicated but you made it sound easy! I’m gonna try red and pink for Valentine’s Day!
