Fall is in full-swing here! The leaves are changing, we live at the soccer fields, and it’s getting darker earlier. Give me all the cozy loungewear, good books, and slow cooker recipes. Today, I am sharing my October 2024 reading list with you.

October 2024 Reading List
With lots of atmospheric tension, drama, and twists… you’ll want to pair these titles with a warm drink and a cozy blanket.
The Lake of Lost Girls
I *just* finished The Lake of Lost Girls and WOW. Talk about a plot twist!! The Lake of Lost Girls was a twisty, atmospheric thriller that kept me guessing until the end.

Jess is the apple of her father’s eye, with an overbearing mother. She’s back from college to celebrate her little sisters’ 6th birthday when she suddenly vanishes and is never seen again. This is in the wake of 3 other mysterious disappearances of girls from the college. All cases go cold.
20 years later, Jess’ little sister Lindsey begrudgingly teams up with a journalist named Ryan when a body is found and the internet sleuths and podcasters swoop in as the investigation is reopened.
The dueling time line added to the drama, and we bounced back and forth between Jess in her freshman year, leading up to her disappearance, and Lindsey in present day.
This book will have you pointing fingers at everyone, and the ending gets a chef’s kiss from me! (And also, a major EWWWW🧟♀️🫢)

Society of Lies
It took me a while to get into Society of Lies by Brown. To call it a slow burn would be an understatement!

While I loved the short chapters (for easy stopping points), I did have a hard time grasping the dual timelines and all the characters. I found myself going back to see the dates at the start of the chapters to get a grip on where we were on the timeline.
That said, there were lots of secrets, lies, and a secret society within an exclusive society, which made it interesting… but the whole time, we were trying to pin the murder of a student on a professor… and I felt like it all fizzled out in the end, and was rather anticlimactic. In fact, I finished it, and sat there like, “what?! After all that, that’s what went down?” I felt like Society of Lies took so long to read and the ending wasn’t as exciting as it could have been!

Everyone Has Secrets
When a girl ODs at a birthday party, shit hits the fan in a small town. Everyone Has Secrets is an atmospheric thriller where a mother struggles to figure out what happened in her own house, while her life begins to fall apart. Losing her friends, job, and possibly even her husband.

Yes, everyone in this story has secrets, but it was all fairly anticlimactic. Nothing was shocking, but I did find myself wondering what was going to happen next. I wasn’t sure what I was expecting with the epilogue… but it wasn’t that! 😬 it salvaged Everyone Has Secrets from a hard 3 to a decent 3.5 star read!

The Private Chef
The Private Chef is absolutely captivating, It’s got a little bit of everything: revenge, deception, lots of red-herrings to throw off my guesses 😉
