Back to school, already?! I KNOW. It seems like summer just found us in Michigan, but the girls head back next month! Adaline will be starting preschool, and London will be riding the “big kid bus” with Peyton. How crazy is that? Speaking of buses and school, have you seen the newest book in the Pigeon series by Mo Willems? The Pigeon HAS To Go To School! released July 2nd, and is available here.
In true Pigeon-fashion, learning he has to go to school comes with many questions and much protest – the girls thought it was so silly! “Why does the Pigeon have to go to school? He already knows everything! And what if he doesn’t like it? What if the teacher doesn’t like him? What if he learns TOO MUCH!?!”
In honor of the release of The Pigeon HAS To Go To School!, we threw a little reading party! We cuddled up on the couch with the new book, and a few old favorites (like Don’t Let The Pigeon Drive The Bus) and these extra cozy Pigeon blankets thanks to Berkshire Blanket. We had fun spelling words and working on our ABC’s with some alphabet cookies, and made a fun pencil topper craft!
Pencil Topper Craft
WHAT YOU NEED
- Pencils
- Pipe Cleaners
- Glue
- Construction Paper
- Scissors
- Googly Eyes
WHAT WE DID
- Carefully wrap the pipe cleaner around the top of the pencil.
- Cut a beak out of the construction paper.
- Glue the beak to the pipe cleaner. Pro tip: a little goes a long way on a pipe cleaner!
- Add the eyes.
We wanted our pencil toppers to look like Pigeon, so we opted for blue. Peyton already has hers stashed in her pencil case to take on the first day of school!
I guess The Pigeon HAS To Go To School after all 😉 See what I did there?
