We had a gem of a weekend, as far as the weather goes! Which meant the cabin fever was real. In an effort to break up the day, we bundled up, and headed to a local bookstore to pick up some new reads. Dave told the girls they could each pick out two books – I was exempt from that rule 😉 I am excited to share what we brought home with this Spring Book Haul roundup post!
I went in knowing I wanted to pick up Ava and the Rainbow Who Stayed. It has been in my Amazon cart for forever. The illustrations are gorgeous, and the story reminds us of appreciation and gratitude.
I saw Llama Phones on the shelf, and grabbed it because the cover instantly got my attention. It’s a book of homophones, like pale vs pail, stare vs stare, etc. All illustrated with a pretty funny llama character. Some of the pages even feature textures – which is a big win with Addy and London! The author has done a few other fun language books (which are currently in my Amazon cart!!), see them here and here.
We have a copy of Oh, The Places You’ll Go, and we have each of Peyton’s teachers write her a little note at the end of the school year – we plan on giving it to her at her high school graduation. I’ve been looking for a book to use for London, since I wanted to do a different book for each girl. I saw Dear Girl on the featured book shelf at the store, and after skimming through the pages, I knew it was the perfect book for her.
When I came back to the area we were sitting and reading in with The Pink Hat, Dave laughed. He said, “You have a type of book, and this is it!” It’s true. I have a very similar type of illustrator I lean toward, and The Pink Hat hits the nail on the head. Admittedly, I did grab it because of the cover 😉 I was surprised to flip through the pages and see it was actually about the Women’s March! It doesn’t get political or drive agendas, it’s more of a lighthearted peek into activism. I love it.
London came home with some new additions to her Little Golden Book collection: Mommy Stories and I’m A Ballerina.
Peyton picked up a book about Disney’s Descendents and a NatGeo book about Abe Lincoln (because she’s a big fan! haha).
Adaline picked out a PJ Masks book and a Minnie Mouse sticker book.
I hope you had a great weekend, and I HOPE spring finds us this week… but if not, we have plenty of new books!
