I cannot be alone with having a children’s book-buying addiction? I have at least ten at any given time in my Amazon “saved for later” section, just waiting for a time when I need to “add $12 more dollars to qualify for free shipping”. And don’t even get me started on when Peyton brings her book order forms home from school!! The girls have books on books on books, but I cannot help myself. The illustrations are so beautiful, and reading to my girls is one of our favorite pastimes. (Despite Adaline sitting through two pages, and then yanking the book out of my hand and giving me a new one, and repeating the process!)
I feel like new books are always coming out, or we are always discovering new books. Here is a current roundup of some of the ones on repeat:
Poke-a- Dot | Snuggle the Baby | The Little Girl Who Lost Her Name c/o | Kingdom of You c/o | Spot the Snail in the Garden | Today | The Wonderful Things You Will Be | The Incredible Intergalactic Journey Home c/o
The Little Girl Who Lost Her Name, Kingdom of You, and The Incredible Intergalactic Journey Home are all amazing, one-of-a-kind books. Each book is has customized options for your child’s name, hair/skin color, and other options (like where you live or favorite foods!). The newest book by the company is Kingdom of You, and it is such a silly book! Peyton absolutely falls over laughing, mostly because of the pizza monster – but you’ll have to buy it to find out why 😉
Think of The Wonderful Things You Will Be as a less rhyme-y, slightly indie version of Oh The Places You’ll Go (which is also a great book!). It is full of absolutely beautiful illustrations, and the girls love to pick their favorites on each page (for example, there are pages with a few babies, or with kids in costumes, and they point at which one they want to be! So cute!)
It’s hard to find a book all the girls will sit and read together, since they are all at different stages, and like I mentioned above, Adaline is a little too “hands on” to sit and actually enjoy being read to at this stage, but she will sit at “play” her Poke-a-Dot book long enough for me to make dinner! It’s kind of like reusable bubblewrap on each page. Adaline pops them all out, then flips the page, and pops it back in. Even London gets into this book! There is also a cute farm version and 10 Little Monkeys!
London’s absolute favorite book we own is Snuggle the Baby. It has interactive pages, and even a baby that pops out, for you to feed, swaddle, and put to bed. And – knock on wood – I haven’t had to tape this book back together like so many of our other Pop Up and Lift the Flap style books! I buy this book as a big sibling gift whenever our friends have second babies!
Peyton’s favorite right now is Spot the Snail in the Garden (and any I Spy style book, lately!). There is a snail hiding on every page, as well as 5 items to find in each of the colorful and very busy scenes. There are also little bonuses on each page, like math problems and fun facts! London is actually very good at finding the little animals hiding on each page (sometimes, better than me!)
And I saved my favorite for last! Today is SUCH a fun book. It’s a little long, so we definitely lose Adaline, and usually lose London before we finish, but Peyton and I enjoy it so! The little girl in the book wakes up, and wonders what she will do. But first! She must get dressed, do her hair, eat, etc. And each page has adorable illustrations with so many options. Peyton (and London, before we lose her) love to debate over what to wear – usually the tutu with rain boots and butterfly wings (not surprised!). The book goes on and on with all different options and ends with the girl back in bed, wondering what to do tomorrow.
I hope you found at least one new, fun book to discover with your kiddos this Spring! Please let me know if you have any current favorites that we need to check out!!
