Adding essential oils to our day-to-day life has been so fun; it’s also allowing us to get a little creative! The other day, David mentioned he needed a sugar scrub because his arms were feeling really dry. As he headed to Amazon, I stopped him! “We can make that, it’s really easy!” Challenge accepted.
I let David pick his oil and color (I used my soap colorant over food coloring, for staining purposes). He chose eucalyptus and green (I’m going to make it for myself to use as a lip scrub and I’ll probably use grapefruit oil!). This was SO easy, and I made it in about 5 minutes.
What you need:
- 1 cup of white sugar
- 1/4 cup of coconut oil
- essential oil of choice
- optional: soap colorant
What you do:
- Mix 1 cup of sugar with 1/4 cup of coconut oil in a small bowl.
- Add in 6-8 drops of essential oil and soap colorant, then mix well.
- Scoop into an airtight container (I used a small mason jar).
Use a tablespoon-sized scoop in the shower as needed. Scrub your skin, and rinse with water. Your skin will seriously thank you! Your scrub will last on your counter for 2 months.
Have you made a sugar scrub before? I would love to hear some of your favorite scents to use!

Very interesting. I’ve got a few essential oils and a book but haven’t had time to put it to use yet.

I use them in my diffuser mostly! At night, especially! You can do so much with them – it’s a lot of fun to experiment!

I am such a newbie to EO and love the doTERRA brand. That’s one thing I have learned fast is that the quality of their EO over others are unrivaled. I have mainly diffused them at night and have used them as a roll-on for my young daughters. But making this sugar scrub would be absolutely amazing! I must try this. You make this look so easy. Thank you for sharing. Now, to round up the ingredients. Thanks again mama.

Hi! This one is super easy and fun! I made an orangey colored one with my grapefruit oil recently and it’s so great t wake up your senses in the shower in the morning! Peyton and I whipped up a pink bubblegum flavored scrub this weekend, since her lips are really chapped right now (and it was all I could to stop her from eating it!), I’ll be sharing that recipe soon too!
