I broke a new beach reading vacation record, guys! Over our holiday trip to Florida, I got through 3 books! In fact, I read the last sentence of the third as the wheels were touching down on our return flight home. Talk about good timing ???? Beach reading will always be my favorite – there’s nothing like curling up in the sun with a good book. Today, I am sharing my 4th book review round up with you!

The Golden Cage – The Golden Cage was recommended to me as “somewhat similar to Verity“. It was a good read, and I was sucked into the story almost immediately. It had lots of twists and turns, and I found my heart really went out to the protagonist. Here’s the gist: a woman with a mysterious past falls in love with a man, and things are wonderful. They get married, she drops out of college to help him get his business up off the ground. Fast forward a few years, and the husband’s business is a huge success, and they live a fabulously decadent life… and one she finds herself with nothing. And then you need to buckle up, as it gets a little wild. It’s full of sex, lies, and betrayal, which is right up my alley, apparently ????
My biggest critique with The Golden Cage is that I guessed the ended based on seeing the movie The Other Woman and reading Gone Girl. Also the last page of the book, I wouldn’t necessarily say it was a “shocker” but more of a “seriously?” Read it, and let me know if you agree or if you loved the ending!!
The End of Her – I really liked The End of Her! I read it cover-to-cover in 3 sittings, so I guess you could say it was a hard one to put down. The story starts with a very cryptic prologue – my favorite. A couple is happily married with twin babies, when their world is turned upside down. An old friend shows up, and is full of wild accusations that indicate the husband may have some skeletons in his closet. The story follows his wife, while she tries to figure out who is lying, who is telling the truth, and what to do to keep herself and her twins safe!
This was a very fast-paced book, and I had no idea what was gonna happen in the end. The End of Her is definitely my favorite from the 3 books I am reviewing today.
The Turn of the Key – The Turn of the Key is another book by Ruth Ware, whom I adore, I reviewed One by One in an earlier book review post… but The Turn of the Key fell a little flat for me. The gist: A woman accepts a job as a live-in nanny, despite it being quite out of character for her, she lied to get the position, and it paid extremely well. There’s a death, and suddenly the protagonist is a prime suspect! It started a little slow, and then once the thriller portion of the book hit, I feel like it went too fast.
The book was also laid out like it was a letter. The whole book. If you’re a Ruth Ware fan, you may be a little disappointed with this one!
Have you read anything amazing lately? I am about to start The Last House Guest, and it promises “dizzying plot twists and multiple surprise endings”. We shall see!! For more beach reading inspo, check out this post.
