It’s been a while since I’ve shared an update of my haircare lineup. After going brown temporarily during 2020 (because, #quarantinehair 😂), and promptly back to blonde, my hair was fairly damaged. It took nearly all of 2021 to get my hair back to its former glory — a task that would not have been possible without the help of the products on my haircare lineup!
I tried several different haircare routines, masks, vitamins, etc, and finally landed on a handful of products I use every time I wash, dry, and/or style my hair.
My Haircare Lineup
dyson airwrap // brush // blow dry cream // leave-in treatment // hair clips // scalp serum // hairspray // shampoo // olaplex 0 // olaplex 4P // olaplex 3 // clay scalp mask // silk scrunchies // smart straightener
Step 1: pre-wash
Before I wash my hair, I brush it out really well. Then, with my Olaplex 0, I start at the roots and saturate my hair to the roots. Yup — on dry hair. I let that sit for 10 minutes. Without rinsing, I work in Olaplex 3 (pro tip: use a comb gently as needed). After another 10 minutes, I am ready to wash my hair!
Step 2: wash
I start by really scrubbing my scalp as I rinse and rinse and rinse and rinse to make sure I got all the Olaplex out of my hair. Then, it’s time to shampoo with my favorite ever shampoo. I’ve tried several “repairing” shampoos, but find they don’t clean my hair as well, and my hair always feels really oily after. With this Shu Umera shampoo, my hair feels nourished, but my scalp/roots also feel nice and clean.
After washing with my “regular” shampoo, I go in with my Olaplex 4P. Now, it’s worth mentioning that I try to avoid getting this on my extensions (and also on any surface in my bathroom!!!). I usually clip sections of my hair away and work this product in at the crown of my head. Otherwise, my extensions end up Elsa from Frozen blonde 😳 But that is NOT a complaint — my natural hair has no signs of brassiness, and we have well water!
I don’t always use a conditioner, but when I do, I use this one!
Step 3: Drying
I should also mention I use this towel — I did notice it cuts down on drying time, and it’s much more comfortable to wear on your head than a full-sized bathroom towel!
Before I start drying, I gently brush my hair out. Then, I spritz all over with my go-to leave-in tonic water (which smells so good!), and 2 pumps of my blow dry cream. The two of these together always leave my hair shiny, and they work as a heat protectant!
I also started using First Aid Beauty’s scalp serum back when it launched last July. 6 months later, my stylist complimented me on how happy my scalp looked, and noted new hair growth! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I caved in and splurged last spring on the Dyson Airwrap, and I can officially say I never truly lived before owning one. It really is a noticeable difference from my T3 dryer (which is a $200 dryer, and T3 is one of my favorite hair brands… so this was a game changer!). Using my old T3 or a drugstore brand dryer, I would be standing around for the better part of an hour just getting my hair dry. With the Dyson, my hair is not only dry within 25 minutes, but it’s smooth and shiny too. I can finally give myself a blowout at home!
Step 4: Styling
I typically curl my hair daily with my T3 Curl ID – I love it. But I chose to feature my straightener in this post, and I am excited to share why!
When I straighten my hair, I tend to clamp down and pull on my hair a lot more than when I curl my hair. I find my hair to look the most damaged, dry, and brittle after straightening… that is, until T3 came out with the Lucea ID! It’s a smart straightener!
When you turn the Lucea ID on, you can customize you hair profile based on your hair length, texture, and color treatments. It will set to a personalized heat level — so I don’t have to smell my own burning hair because I set my straightener too high!
I always finish my hair off with Bumble & Bumble’s Dryspun Spray. Guys, this hairspray has been on my haircare lineup for nearly 6 years now, religiously. It’s the only hairspray that can stand up to Michigan’s Summertime humidity, while leaving my hair touchable. This spray has a great hold, but my hair still moves when I walk 😉
