I feel like we have finally gotten back into the groove of real life, after our week at the beach. We had the best weather, despite arriving on the cloudiest, rainiest, most humid day ever. Most days, we were up and at the beach by 10. We had late lunches, and grilled for dinner.
Our first day there, we rented a paddle board for the day, and had a blast watching everyone attempt (and mostly fail) to ride it. Dave and I trying to balance on it together was probably the highlight for everyone else!
We headed into Grand Haven one day, to walk the boardwalk and the pier. Pro tip: don’t forget the stroller for this! Dave wore Adaline in the Cybex carrier, so that meant I was left holding London once her little legs got tired, as Peyton ran ahead, and demanded shoulder rides from Uncle Evan. We grabbed lunch at Kirby in town (the chicken lettuce wraps are amazing and so is the chicken chili!) and headed back to the cottage, so the girls could have their [long overdue] naps.
Friday, we woke up to clouds and wind, so the beach was out. We headed into town once again for Grand Haven’s big sidewalk sale, which was mostly an excuse for London to run around and pet everyone’s dogs. We bought a few, fun souvenirs (like fudge and super classy chocolate from a place that smelled like heaven).
We learned London really doesn’t like sand. Like, at all. As in: she screams when her feet touch it, and if you tried to set her in it, she curled her legs up like a cat going into a tub of water, and she would cling to you with her brute toddler strength. HOWEVER. Toward the end of the week, I discovered she has zero fear of waves, and she absolutely loved to kick and splash. She even went underwater and popped back up with a smile on her face.
SwimZip was nice enough to send us a few rash guards, to keep us protected from the sun for the week. I am a huge fan of functional products that are still stylish, and that is exactly what these rash guards are! Otherwise, we stuck to our Sun Bum Sunscreen regimen, and I am happy to report no one got sunburnt! David also brought along this mysterious mosquito repelling lantern, which actually worked!
And now, for the onslaught of vacation photos. Ready?
similar dress here and here | baby wrap | peyton’s dress | addy’s bonnet my swimsuit | water bottle | sunglasses
blanket | rash guard c/o peyton’s pjs (and omg at her bedhead – but isn’t this the sweetest photo?)
dave’s rash guard c/o | my rash guard c/o | my hat mat | sleeper | bow is part of Loopty Loo Bows’ fall collection, out August 29!
baby chair | addy’s rash guard c/o | peyton’s rash guard c/o | round towel | cooler
The last photo was taken as we were packing up and heading out. Despite Lo being on the verge of a meltdown and refusing to let go of her blanket, it’s a great last memory to have from our week.
Hard to believe school starting is just around the corner! What I wouldn’t do for one more beach day…
